Measuring the Return on Investment (ROI) on any proposed business venture, or an existing business where additional investment is proposed to be made, is an important aspect to consider when deciding on whether to invest the funds into the business. It is a preliminary measure to indicate whether a project will generate a positive return on the funds invested based on existing conditions and assumptions about the future. To better illustrate this concept, I will map out a ROI analysis on a fictitious company. Most companies also have a pre-determined hurdle rate against which they measure any new project to determine whether or not to proceed with the proposed investment. MidRange uses a hurdle rate of 25%.

SMALL BUSINESS BIG POTENTIAL
Social technology in business can be a bit of a minefield. Get it right and you stand to reap the benefits of engaging your customers, get it wrong and you will feel its wrath. For a good example of what not to do have a look at the Black Milk social media fail here and here.
Rather than do a case study on an organisation from an external viewpoint, I thought I could share some experiences from a small business that I am lucky enough to be a part of. This is a business that is just starting to hit its stride with social media and I will try and give a peek inside what we have done right, and what we can improve upon.

CASH RULES EVERYTHING AROUND ME
For this post I’m going to try something different. I’m going to attempt to change my writing style from highly explanative to short sharp and to the point, based on some feedback I have been given. Here we go.
This weeks topic is social media technology and how it is put to use on an organisational level and why. McKinsey’s report entitled, The social economy: Unlocking value and productivity through social technologies explores the concept of value creation in an organisation through social technologies. It identifies 10 ‘Levers’ that an organisation can use to generate value. These 10 levers are compartmentalised into 6 organisational functions including marketing and sales and customer service which I will further explore through the case study of Rapha.

It is the commercial crossover of web 2.0, but what is that? whats is web 1.0? They are hip new internet browsers. They are buzzwords and you should ignore them completely!
I will start from the beginning
